What experience do we have?

  • Advised a group of nationals from Zimbabwe on their right to claim compensation in the US under the Alien Tort Statute against a multinational tobacco company that was complicit in the violation of their international human rights.

  • Advised in the Trilateral Negotiations between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan on the Great Ethiopia Renaissance Dam.

  • Represented the African Union in the International Criminal Court at the Hague.

  • Represented South Africa in the International Criminal Court at the Hague in a matter involving its obligations under the Rome Statute to honour an international arrest warrant.

  • Advised a multinational mining company whose investments in a foreign state were nationalized.

  • Represented one of the states in the mediation of the Lake Malawi dispute.

  • Represented an African head of state in a constitutional law challenge to the legitimacy of his right to hold office in his own country on the basis of what he claimed were trumped-up charges.

  • Represented a multinational oil company in litigation against an African state on matters involving the state’s domestic laws which were held to be in breach of its international environmental law obligations.

  • Assisted a group of people who were fleeing Afghanistan from political persecution by the Taliban and to find asylum and obtain refugee status in an African state where issues of refoulement were raised.

  • Assisted a large multinational telecommunications corporation that had been sued by a Turkish parastatal for alleged corrupt dealings with the Iranian government triggering the Act of State Doctrine and Sovereign Immunity.
